Surgical Tech Intern – Advocate Health is committed to supporting our WI Surgical Technologist Students with an additional 8 hours of weekly OR experience to help you grow your skills and onboard quicker within one of our sites of care.

Surgical Technologist – As a Surgical Technologist at Advocate Health, your role is crucial in ensuring the safety and success of surgical procedures. Working as part of the Surgical Team, you will play a key role in maintaining a sterile environment, anticipating surgical needs and promoting positive patient outcomes.

Advance Your Surgical Career Path

Surgical Technologist II – As you advance in your career, your surgical knowledge will allow you to function as a First and Second Assistant. You will be a resource for the team and will participate in staff development, and training and will help maintain a specialty cart.

Surgical Assistant – Working side by side with the Surgeon you know just what they need before, during and after the case. Your advanced knowledge in surgical techniques allows you support the Surgeon and OR Team throughout the operation.

Nursing Surgical Career Path

  • PACU Nurse – A Nurse in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides comprehensive care and support to patients during the critical phase following surgery. At Advocate our PACU Nurses take charge of evaluating patients’ post-operative status, monitoring vital signs, and assessing their response to anesthesia. This role extends to proactive involvement in managing pain, facilitating communication between patients and the healthcare team, and ensuring that patients are well-informed about their post-operative care plan.
  • Preadmission Nurse The Advocate Nurse in the pre-admission role serves as a dedicated healthcare professional, delivering comprehensive care and support to patients in the critical phase preceding their hospital admission. Acting as a liaison between patients and the healthcare system, the Advocate Nurse undertakes a multifaceted approach to ensure patients receive optimal care.
  • Pre-op Nurse – As an Advocate Nurse in preoperative care, responsibilities encompass a diverse array of tasks. These include a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s health and overall wellness, administration of medications and other essential treatments, and providing emotional support to both patients and their families. The Advocate Nurse acts as a supportive guide, helping patients navigate the complexities of preoperative preparations and instilling confidence in their journey towards surgery.
  • Operating Room Nurse – As an Advocate Nurse in the Operating Room you will work closely with surgeons, residents, advanced practice clinicians, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and assistants to provide superior surgical outcomes for patients having surgery throughout many service lines (Ortho, Neuro, General, ENT, etc). A Nurse in the Operating Room may serve as a scrub nurse, selecting and passing instruments and supplies used for the operation, or as a circulating nurse managing the overall nursing care in the operating room and helping to maintain a safe, comfortable environment for the patient.

This 26-month program provides an opportunity for teammates to earn an associate degree in surgical technology.
